Wickes Tile Effect Laminate

wickes anthracite tile effect
We recently acquired some of the tile effect flooring samples from a Wickes store in Coventry. Our goal on this page is to provide as much information as possible to help make your shopping with Wickes more helpful - much of the information we found was not available on their website.

On this site, we import products and prices on a daily basis. One of the first thing that was noticeable in the store was the immediate lack of the entire range. We could only find two products - the Anthracite Blue and the Cream Travertine. Looking above on this page shows at least 5 different varieties, so we knew there were more in the range however not in store. This would mean shoppers going to their local Wickes store may not either be able to get hold of the product in stock, or alternatively purchase a sample. As you potentially may not be able to see a sample in the store we are trying to provide reports on all Wickes flooring to help remedy the situation. If you can't find the product you are looking for can always order online, but please be prepared to either call the Wickes' in your area before you visit to make sure they have the correct stock in.

In Wickes stores, you can (just as we did) purchase sample laminate planks to take home (which can be refunded at a later date). So if you just can't decide between oak effect, tile effect or even solid wood, 2/3 samples of each product can be purchased and laid down in your home giving you a taste of what the end product could look like.

wickes anthracite vs cream tile effect laminates
The first thing we noticed about the tile effect laminates was the size. They are considerably larger than your average single plank design (128cm x 20xm). The width of wear layer on each of these two floors measures 33cm (13 inches) around 1/3rd of a metre. This is considerably wider than your average single plank laminate (usually around 20cm wide / 8 inches) and matches more along the lines of a three strip design width. The length of each wear layer is 128cm (approx 51 inches) which fits more to the standard length of laminate. The packs also weigh considerably more than your standard pack so please be careful when loading into a car/van as the weight and bulkiness is more than standard.

Another difference between the Anthracite and Travertine tile effects is the 'tile size' in the design. Anthracite features 3 joints per plank (meaning four tiles), whereas the travertine effect features one joint (two tiles) per plank. So depending if you prefer the standard 'grid' pattern which tiles produce, or fancy going for a larger tile more staggered, Wickes supply tile effect designs which can suit your requirements. The installation mechanisms are identical, the main differences are colours and the number of tiles on each plank. Both products are AC 4 grade which means they are very durable and suitable for most areas of the home. As with all laminates however it's not recommended for usage in bathrooms, and when installed into areas with potential water exposure, please make sure you use a sealant & adhesive on the planks which could potentially become wet.

These products are not textured but have very a very good textured print. There is no bevel or v-groove edge, the floor will be a continuous flat smooth surface once laid. When you are looking at installing the two-tile designs, please make sure you take the room design into consideration. Longer tiles should be laid in the direction of the longest dimension of the room. As this is laminate, you will be either installing length ways or width ways, it's usually recommended that you install along the direction you will be walking. This is however a personal preference, once you purchase your flooring it is ultimately up to yourself how you install the floor.

As with all laminates, you have the decision of either removing skirting boards beforehand OR installing a beading, trim or scotia after your installation. With this floor, you could choose from over 10 types of the Wickes Scotias including a flexible white, pine and light/dark effect varieties.

If you've got any more questions, comments or thoughts on the tile effect laminate from Wickes, please don't hesitate to email in at info@laminateflooring.org.uk and we'll do our best to answer.
